Annual run supports Troth Yeddha' Park

UAF’s ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ of Rural and Community Development and Running Club North will hold
the Third Annual Troth Yeddha’ Run for the Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept 13.
The event raises awareness about Troth Yeddha’ Park, located between the UA Museum
of the North and the Reichardt Building, and celebrates Alaska Native history, culture
and traditions.
Pre-registration is available at Beaver Sports, 3480 ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ Road. Pick up bibs from
4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Interior-Aleutians ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ Harper Building,
4280 Geist Road in Fairbanks. Registration is $20, with all proceeds donated to UA
Foundation's Troth Yeddha Park Fund.
The race starts and ends at Troth Yeddha’ Park. Parking is free and available behind
the museum. Troth Yeddha’ 5K Run for the Park is a recognized Running Club North event.
Final registration is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event.
Troth Yeddha’ Park commemorates the Alaskan Natives who, for generations, gathered
on the ridge to share traditional knowledge and harvest wild potatoes. The park brings
together people from all walks of life to share indigenous knowledge. Traditional Chief
Peter John remarked that elders decided the university's use of Troth Yeddha’, which
means "wild potato ridge" in Lower Tanana Athabascan, was good because it would carry
on the hill's tradition as a place for thinking and working together.
