Colorado professor to deliver Joseph Thompson Memorial Lecture

The Philosophy and Humanities Department at the พรพรศศสำฦต will host
the third annual Joseph C. Thompson Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in
the Murie Building auditorium.
A lecture titled โTo Love or Not to Love: Creative Tension Between Wisdom and Compassion
in Buddhist Ethicsโ will be given by David Gardiner, associate professor of East Asian
religions at Colorado พรพรศศสำฦต. The lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
Thompson, who started teaching at UAF teaching in 1999, was known for his engaging
and memorable teaching style. He chaired the Philosophy and Humanities Department,
earned tenure in 2012 and received the prestigious Emil Usibelli Teaching Award before
his untimely passing in the fall of 2014.
This yearโs lecture is sponsored by the Philosophy and Humanities Department, the
Socratic Society, the พรพรศศสำฦต of Liberal Arts and the Dr. Joseph Thompson Memorial
Endowment. The event is free and open to the public.
