Spring 2023 tuition waiver reminder

Tuition waivers for employees, faculty, adjuncts, spouses and dependents are due each semester by the fee payment deadline, which is Friday, Jan. 27. Please remember tuition waivers cover tuition only and the student is responsible for paying all other fees by the payment deadline.

Making geospatial data accessible through community collaboration

Friday Focus: Survey says... 'A bright future ahead!'

The Chancellor’s Cabinet consists of 22 directors, which is used as an advisory group on policy, new initiatives, and thorny issues. They are thoughtful and representative of a broad swath of UAF. It is a group with its finger on the pulse of the university. On Monday, the last cabinet meeting before the winter break, we dedicated an hour to a look ahead. All members were given the opportunity to share their, or their unit’s big goals for the next academic year or an introspective look back, things that worked or things that didn’t. It was a very interesting and inspiring 60 minutes. What I heard was an overwhelming sense of hope and optimism.

Friday Focus: Let's talk about accreditation

Did you know that the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ has been accredited by the Northwest Commission on ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs and Universities (NWCCU) since 1934? But what does this mean? What is accreditation and why is it so important? Simply put, accreditation is a quality stamp - a stamp of assurance. For students, the stamp means they can trust UAF to provide a high standard of education imparted by qualified faculty. Students can also be assured of many opportunities and support services that are geared to set them up for overall success. For external employers, it means they do not have to second guess the quality of learning and preparation that comes with the academic degree from UAF. For faculty and staff, it means they are a part of an institution that is resourced to meet the standards necessary to receive accreditation. Accreditation also makes UAF eligible to receive federal financial aid as well as additional grant-funding.

As we went around the room making introductions, we were prompted to share what we are passionate about. As were many of the senators and executive leaders in the room, I am passionate about solving problems. If I can solve a problem by connecting someone to the right person or resource? Even better. I love making those connections.
