The Tanana District is one of the largest Cooperative Extension Service districts in the United States, covering an area of more than 120,000 square miles. The population is approximately 100,000 and includes the Fairbanks North Star Borough and 64 villages with a mostly Alaska Native population. Much of the district is inaccessible by road. The main economic drivers are mining, tourism, the University of Alaska, and the military.
The district offers outreach programs in agriculture and horticulture; health, home and family development; integrated pest management; nutrition; and 4-H and youth development.

The UAF Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension will host a series of hourlong lunch seminars. Presentations will focus on engaging people in a conversation about the issues their research surrounds, and will be relatively informal and friendly. Talks will be about 30 minutes long, with plenty of time for questions and conversations. Register using the or visit .
During these seminars, researchers will present ideas to inspire interdisciplinary collaboration and build relationships around Alaska&/ces/districts/tanana/39;s food systems.
Researchers and students at University of Alaska, other circumpolar institutions, and land-grant university Experiment Stations are invited to listen to IANRE researchers present ideas that spark curiosity and inspire new pathways forward.
While the seminars will focus on agriculture in the sub-Arctic and Arctic, the broader aim is to create a space for connection and dialogue, ultimately strengthening research across disciplines to support the circumpolar food system.

Join us for our monthly meeting, where we&/ces/districts/tanana/39;ll discuss new topics, grow our skills and connect with fellow gardeners. This is a great opportunity to learn, share, and socialize with our community. This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month.
What to expect:
Education: Each month features an educational presentation from a guest speaker or one of our own master gardeners. We&/ces/districts/tanana/39;ll cover a wide range of topics, including pest management, soil health, plant propagation, and more.
Business meeting: We&/ces/districts/tanana/39;ll briefly discuss important updates, upcoming events, and volunteer opportunities.
Socialization: Catch up with friends, share your latest gardening triumphs and challenges, and get advice from experienced gardeners. This is your chance to connect with others who share your passion.
